波动是任何投资市场运行的共同特点. 那么，波动有短期和长期之分.
当价格经过一波连续的上涨、处于高位时，只要不是再持续地、连续地上涨，则即会出现反复波动或回探；当经过一轮连续的下跌，只要不是再继续、连续地下挫，则同样会有反复波动或反弹。
如此，行情在连续地、持续大幅上涨或下挫之后，一般需要一个高位或者低位宽幅或窄幅振荡、整理、蓄势的过程。只有经历一个这样的过程，才会有大行情。

再有一种情况就是，在高位或低位上涨或下跌的过程中突然下跌或上涨，急速、快速地下跌或上涨，一般会有一个大的回探或者反弹行情，甚至很大，而且周期可能不会短，即一个长周期的宽幅振荡或过程，这通常预示着前期连续的上涨或下跌行情已经结束，即将反转。如果经过这样的两次振荡反复且后一次的幅度更大，超过前一次最低或最高点，则反转基本可以肯定确认。
(one)大幅上涨后的高位宽幅振荡意味着行情已经结束,即将反转向下;
(two)大幅下跌后的低位宽幅振荡也意味着行情已经结束,即将反转向上;

以上行情的特点说明一个问题，或者一个原理。就是市场的反转行情，不管是什么形态，M头、头肩顶等等，均是后人对反转行情特点或者更广泛地说，是对所有行情（所有形态）的一个提炼或者总结。其基本原理就是，当行情在反转时需要一个反复振荡的多头或者空头平仓出货的过程，即多空激烈争夺的一个过程。——这个过程或许在许多情况下或者说在绝大多数情况下未必以一个可以容易识别、清晰可见的、一个可以描述的形态出现，即这个反复振荡的过程是无序的。
这一点非常重要。所能总结归纳的形态应该说是行情运行特点的特例。不管有多少形态，毕竟有限，是有限的特例。关键是深刻领会、理解和把握行情运行的这一原理，不能机械地把握有限的几个行情的形态和特点。要灵活掌握，举一反三。这样才能最终达到出神入化、游刃有余、运用自如的境界。
