保尔森敦促国会不要拖延救市计划通过
白宫周二表示通过7,000亿美元的金融救助计划是非常迫切的，且这是保护美国经济的最好方法。总统布殊称对紧急通过金融救市计划有信心；财长保尔森在国会作证时表示，救援计划悲哀和令人为难，但为了避免经济深度衰退和恢复市场信心只能如此。但该计划因规模宏大和缺乏明细而遭到一些议员的质疑。尽管如此，众议院议长佩洛希表示金融救援法案正取得进展，但她没有就何时可提交投票作出展望。参议院金融委员会主席多德表示，如果作出修改，仍有可能在11月大选前通过该计划。在保尔森发表证词的时候，联储被迫向金融体系再次注入20亿美元，以帮助共同基金满足客户的撤资需求，救援计划可能延后的前景，导致欧美股市连续第二日下跌。不过，盘后消息指美国金融投资大户巴菲特的Berkshire Hathawaywith50亿美元投资高盛，令stock market indexfutures飙涨。
