美元周二连续第二个交易日下跌，美国最大的住宅融资机构房利美公布的季度亏损大于预期，显示金融市场动荡还将持续。房利美公布因美国楼市危机在2008年第一季再次恶化，首季在支付优先股股息后净亏损25.1亿美元，约合每股亏损2.57美元。这对美元不利，因其显示处于困境的美国楼市问题仍在继续拖累经济表现。房利美财报提醒投资者，美国楼市问题可能尚未完全曝露，这对美元来说是个坏兆头。若这些问题导致更多裁员，并放缓消费者支出，美国联邦储备理事会(FED)可能被迫再度降息，影响美元对全球投资人的吸引力。另外，油价冲破每桶120美元，被视为不利美元。美元指数下跌至最低72.734。其后，美国最大的房屋融资机构房利美主管表示，尽管该公司季度亏损高达22亿美元，他们仍持审慎乐观的看法，认为信贷危机最坏时期已经过去。房利美的评论，加上其筹措60亿美元资本的计划，似乎缓解了投资的忧虑，美元于尾盘亦见扳回大部份跌幅。
