不过，美国和中国将很快结束贸易争端的乐观预期，这将削减全球经济放缓步伐，进而给油市提供了一定支撑。美国国务卿蓬佩奥(Mike Pompeo)周一表示，他认为美中两国“即将”达成协议结束贸易摩擦。他的讲话为两国磋商增添了更多积极迹象。与此同时，美国白宫经济顾问委员会主席哈西特(Kevin Hassett)在接受福克斯商业频道采访时说，美国贸易代表莱特希泽与中国的谈判取得了进展，双方有可能达成协议。
